Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Louisville | Mostly over Duke because they didn't have a scare against Georgia State, but also their offensive eFG% is a ridiculous 64.4% |
| Duke | Current red flag is their offensive output hasn't been amazing against middling defenses, and their D is putting guys on the charity stripe. |
| Virginia | This is a *ridiculous* defense that is somehow managing to suffocate offenses to the tune of a 30.8% eFG% while keeping them off the FT line |
| Michigan State | I'm giving them a break since they've played a tough SOS, but this does not look like the #1 most efficient offense KenPom says they are. |
| Ohio State | At this point they have the toughest SoS of the undefeateds, and their interior D is amazing. |
| North Carolina | The big red flag is their defense is not forcing turnovers and they are shooting a pretty poor 44.8% from inside against a mediocre SoS. |
| Gonzaga | I don't know how much credit I want to give the Zags for A&M forgetting how to play offense for ten minutes, but they passed a big test. |
| Kansas | 3-point assassin Isaiah Moss is looking like a great grad transfer pickup. Their offensive TO rate is regressing with more games, too. |
| Oregon | Right now their biggest stand-out number is their opposing 3-pt%, which is usually not a very predictive indicator. Need to find more TOs. |
| Maryland | I'd expect their offense's 3-pt numbers to drastically improve as Ayala and Wiggins shoot more, and every other stat about this team is good |
| Texas Tech | Tech's leading the country in assists per field goal by almost 3 standard deviations. Holyfield is shooting 88% from inside, too. |
| Kentucky | They're better than they played against Evansville, and are one of a few teams that are just having bad 3-point luck right now. |
| Arizona | Shooting well and not turning the ball over while forcing your opponents to shoot poorly and stealing the ball from them is a good recipe. |
| Seton Hall | Myles Powell is the truth, but his team need to stop putting opponents on the charity stripe. |
| Villanova | Got run out of the gym by Ohio State but still managed to exhibit their strength on the defensive glass. |
| Texas | Thus begins the "I don't know if I believe in them but they're undefeated against a solid SoS" part of my ballot |
| Auburn | See above |
| Memphis | A loss to Oregon in Portland isn't much to hang your head about. They're still monsters on the glass. |
| Oklahoma | They've quietly put together a decent early-season resume, but they're in a crowded Big 12 and their numbers aren't earth-shattering. |
| Tennessee | I don't think they're going to shoot this well from 3 for the whole year, but they picked up a good win over Washington. |
| Xavier | I fully expect this team to run into a team that has an above-average offense and a D that can force them to shoot 3's and get embarrassed. |
| Utah State | Really want this team to play someone. LSU is on their schedule but I'm having a hard time figuring out what a "Jamaica Classic" is. |
| Michigan | Creighton's a win that'll look good in March. Plus a 61.4% from 2 is a solid line this early. |
| Colorado | They've held two respectable teams to really poor shooting nights, but outside of a 3PT% that's due to regress their O numbers are... bad. |
| Butler | They've got a weak SoS so far but they're playing great basketball. |
