Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Baylor | (0) Want an idea of how crazy this season is? No. 1 Baylor was an underdog at unranked Florida Saturday. They won, and they stay at No. 1. |
| San Diego State | (0) 21-0, though UNLV certainly jeopardized that. Two games vs. New Mexico and a trip to Nevada could be the best chances for SDSU to fall. |
| Gonzaga | (0) Only one game last week for Gonzaga, handled how you'd expect: a 92-59 win over Pacific. Undefeated in WCC play seems very possible. |
| Kansas | (0) The No. 1 team in the country according to Sagarin, KenPom and T-Rank, but No. 4 in my rankings. The top four seem very clear to me. |
| Florida State | (0) Back-to-back scares from Miami and ND, but FSU pulled them out. I think this is the first time all season that my top 5 is unchanged. |
| Dayton | (0) Dayton's destruction tour continues. Killed Bonnie and largely dominated Richmond, arguably the A-10's second best team, on their floor. |
| Louisville | (0) GA Tech was certainly a bit close for comfort, but Louisville got it done, then turned around and whooped Clemson. Good job, Cards! |
| Duke | (0) Head-to-head result puts Louisville ahead of Duke here, but superior résumé gives Duke the edge over the Cardinals in my bracketology. |
| Seton Hall | (0) Seton Hall is 7-0 in Big East play. I want to put them higher, but I can't justify dropping any team above them without losing games. |
| Villanova | (+2) Nova has been almost as dominant in the Big East as Seton Hall. Only a 71-60 loss at Marquette keeps Nova from conference perfection. |
| West Virginia | (+3) Completely obliterating Texas and Missouri back-to-back is one way to rebound from a tough road loss. Rematch with KSU is this weekend. |
| Oregon | (+1) A 2-0 week is something you always take, even if it means a scare at home from USC. Still, Oregon was in control for most of that game. |
| Michigan State | (-2) Can't punish MSU too much for losing on the road against a good Indiana team, especially after a dominating road win over Minnesota. |
| Kentucky | (+2) Huge OT win for Kentucky at Texas Tech. The Wildcats have been playing good basketball ever since that rough patch in late December. |
| Butler | (-5) I have to drop Butler after losing three in a row. They did stop the bleeding with a win over Marquette, but even that went to OT. |
| Maryland | (+2) Nearly lost control, but MD pulled out the win at Indiana despite a good comeback effort from the Hoosiers. That's what good teams do. |
| Auburn | (0) Two straight wins at home is how you rebound from two disappointing losses. The résumé is still lacking, but the Tigers are indeed 17-2. |
| Iowa | (+1) Iowa has been hard to stop, and a reason for that has been Luka Garza. The big man has at least 20 points in each of his last four. |
| Colorado | (+3) Quiet 2-0 week for Colorado, but it's worth noting that the 22-point win over Wazzu came without Tyler Bey. Colorado has some depth. |
| Illinois | (+4) In the conversation for the hottest team in basketball. They're also the only Big Ten team with three conference wins on the road. |
| Wichita State | (+2) Great 2-0 rebound week after going 0-2 the week prior. Just one game this week, but it's at red-hot Tulsa. Don't take them lightly! |
| Rutgers | (-1) Odd week for the Scarlet Knights. Played as well as they could have in a close loss at Iowa, then narrowly beat Nebraska at home. Hmm. |
| Creighton | (NEW) Creighton is playing well. Might take some time to catch up to the top dogs, but they've got a golden opportunity vs. Nova Saturday. |
| Houston | (NEW) I was probably wrong to keep Houston out of my top 30 last week, but we amend that today. 16-4 and a pretty impressive résumé to boot. |
| Penn State | (NEW) Eh, why not? They're playing well. Might as well put them in now before I can't later. Next 5: LSU, Arizona, USC, Indiana, Arkansas |
