Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Baylor | (0) In case you need further proof that Baylor is really good, they just clobbered likely top-4 seed WVU. Mark your calendars for Saturday. |
| San Diego State | (0) 26-0. San Diego State is just three games away from completing the dream, and they're favored in every one of them. Keep it up, Aztecs! |
| Gonzaga | (0) Pepperdine gave them a scare, but the Zags eventually figured it out to post yet another double-digit win over a conference opponent. |
| Kansas | (0) Something that bracketologists are brushing under the rug: Kansas' résumé is way better than Baylor's right now. Just food for thought. |
| Dayton | (0) How high can the Flyers fly? If they keep up their domination of the A-10 and someone on the top line falters, they could be a 1 seed. |
| Duke | (+1) According to ESPN's BPI, Duke has a 25% chance to win the tournament. Seems high to me, but the Blue Devils are playing great ball. |
| Maryland | (+2) Hopefully Saturday's win at East Lansing dispels any doubts that anyone still had about the Terrapins. This year truly feels different. |
| Penn State | (+5) Hi there! I hope I'm not intruding, but a 20-5 record, eight-game win streak and 4-3 road record in the Big Ten seem like top-10 marks. |
| Florida State | (-1) The Noles played pretty well at Duke last Monday, they just weren't able to hit their 3-pointers. FSU seems like the ACC's second best. |
| Creighton | (+6) People are sleeping hard on the Bluejays. A massive win at Seton Hall followed by a stomping of DePaul moves them up six spots for me. |
| Kentucky | (+3) Now we get to the part of the rankings that are just absolute havoc. Kentucky moves up four despite nearly losing twice last week. |
| Auburn | (-2) The Tigers learned in brutal manner that luck doesn't last forever, as their three-game OT winning streak ended at Missouri Saturday. |
| Villanova | (+2) Avoided the sweep via Marquette and went 2-0 on the week. Not much else to report, but it's good enough for me to move up two spots. |
| Oregon | (+4) And we now know why Oregon remains the king of the Pac-12. Colorado gave them a good fight, but the Ducks came out on top in the end. |
| Seton Hall | (-4) Rare two-loss week for Seton Hall. That thing I said about "premier Big East team" last week? Maybe I should put a lid on that for now. |
| Louisville | (-10) Louisville and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week. Ugly loss to GA Tech, even uglier loss to Clemson. That's not good. |
| Colorado | (0) You really can't punish the Buffs for giving it their all in Eugene, especially after they turned right around and whooped Oregon State. |
| West Virginia | (-6) The Mountaineers have now lost three in a row. Granted, KU and Baylor are tough opponents, but WVU just hasn't looked all that great. |
| Marquette | (0) Quiet week. Played a tough game against Villanova but let it get away from them early in the second half. No downward movement here. |
| Iowa | (0) Seems like a 1-1 week is all it takes today to stay put. Iowa fits that bill with a great win at Minny and a not-so-great loss at IU. |
| Ohio State | (NEW) Let's get the Buckeyes back on the list! They're on a massive upswing and are just a win or two away from becoming tournament locks. |
| Arizona | (NEW) I don't think a team has been more in-and-out of my rankings this season than Arizona. A 2-0 week puts the Wildcats back in my top 25. |
| BYU | (NEW) Let's show some respect for a good mid-major not named Gonzaga, Dayton or San Diego State. BYU is the best one to fit that criteria. |
| Butler | (0) Again, 1-1 week seems to equal no movement. Butler isn't playing its most inspired basketball, but I think they're still a top-25 team. |
| URI | (-4) Couldn't upset Dayton, but that's not enough to kick them out of the top 25. Next 5: Rutgers, Michigan, Wisconsin, Michigan State, LSU |
