Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Kansas | (+3) Finally, the top four changes! At last, we have justification to move Kansas up to No. 1, and loads of it with the top 3 all losing. |
| Baylor | (-1) Baylor may not be the best team in basketball, but they're a damn good one, and I won't punish them too much for losing to KU by three. |
| Dayton | (+3) Who'd've thought going into the season that Dayton would end up in the top 3 at some point? This is why college basketball is the best. |
| San Diego State | (-2) And the undefeated dream finally falls. Obviously, the Aztecs fall a few spots too, but nearly everyone in the top 10 lost last week. |
| Gonzaga | (-2) Same drop for the Zags, who finally fell in conference play to BYU on Saturday. Nothing to be ashamed of, BYU is an excellent team. |
| Creighton | (+4) Let's get some respect for Creighton! The Bluejays are cutting through the Big East like a knife and just stomped Butler by 22. Lordy. |
| Florida State | (+2) Remember, top 25 rankings have no impact on tournament position. I still like Duke to be ahead in the bracket, but I'll take FSU here. |
| Maryland | (-1) Maryland took an Ohio State team on the rise in Columbus to the wire for their first loss in over a month. I can't punish that much. |
| Duke | (-3) A double-digit loss to NC State made Duke look mortal for a moment. Then they kicked around VT for 40 minutes Saturday. Classic Duke. |
| Kentucky | (+1) I'm still not super impressed with Kentucky, but I have to reward them for taking down two quality opponents in one week. Top 10 it is. |
| Villanova | (+2) That's four straight wins for Nova since a three-game skid in early February. Jay Wright's squad always heats up at the right time. |
| Seton Hall | (+3) There's currently a very frightening trio at the top of the Big East. Any one of these three teams could make a deep run in March. |
| Louisville | (+3) Last week's disaster seems more like a fluke and less like a sign of things to come. Louisville handled Syracuse and UNC with ease. |
| Oregon | (0) The road trip in Arizona went about as well as it could have. Ran into the red-hot Sun Devils and left with an L but rebounded vs. Zona. |
| Penn State | (-7) Sigh. I knew the climb wouldn't last forever, but I didn't think it would come down this hard. Please tell me Myreon Jones is back now. |
| Auburn | (-4) Auburn is such a bizarre beast. Lost to Georgia and nearly lost to Tennessee before a pulling a 17-point comeback out of thin air. |
| Iowa | (+3) Big week for the Hawkeyes. Two Quad 1 wins over Minnesota and Ohio State and they're suddenly eying a chance at the Big Ten title. |
| BYU | (+5) Being one of the few to beat Gonzaga allows BYU to move up the rankings a good bit. That results also locks them into the tournament. |
| Colorado | (-2) So-so week for the Buffs. Got a decent win over USC, then earned a Q3 loss to UCLA. Then again, UCLA is on fire right now, so... wash. |
| Ohio State | (+1) Some bonus points are in order for being the first team to take down Maryland in over a month. Buckeyes gain a spot for their efforts. |
| Michigan | (NEW) Michigan should probably be in everyone's top 25 right now. The Wolverines are winners of five straight, and three of those were Q1A. |
| West Virginia | (-4) Needless to say, West Virginia's downward slide is concerning. The Mountaineers have lost four of the last five. Bad time to go cold. |
| Wisconsin | (NEW) Guess who else in the Big Ten is hot? After weeks of inconsistency, the Badgers are looking like a contender with four straight wins. |
| Marquette | (-5) Another team on a concerning downward path. Three straight losses for the Golden Eagles. They need to rebound against Georgetown. |
| Texas Tech | (NEW) The Red Raiders slide back into the rankings with a solid 2-0 week. Next 5: Arizona, Michigan State, Arizona State, LSU, Utah State |
