Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Gonzaga | (-) No reason to even consider drop Gonzaga after their great performances in games last week. |
| Baylor | (-) Unfortunately the Baylor-Arizona State game couldn't be played, but the Bears still looked solid the games that were able to be played. |
| Wisconsin | (+2) 'Nova and UVA losing opened the door for Wisconsin to take a top spot. They beat some lesser teams, but at least took care of business. |
| Iowa | (+5) Iowa leapfrogs some teams that didn't lose after said teams either struggling in certain games or not playing that many games. |
| Illinois | (+2) Illinois beat down some scrubs but struggled against Ohio, so there is room for improvement, especially in taking care of the ball. |
| Creighton | (-) Creighton won against North Dakota State, but not much to say about their week. |
| Villanova | (-4) This may be too conservative, but I'm going to hold off on dropping 'Nova too far after their OT loss to Virginia Tech. |
| Virginia | (-4) This might be even more conservative, but again, I'm holding off. There's plenty of time for UVA to rectify for this game. |
| Michigan State | (+4) Maybe having MSU leapfrog is the wrong call, but they played better teams better than Duke. |
| Houston | (+9) After destroying TTU in a score that makes it closer than it was, it's clear me and many others were underrating Houston. |
| Tennessee | (-) Tennessee unfortunately couldn't play any games, and doesn't move as a result. |
| Kansas | (-4) A loss to the best team in the country shouldn't drop Kansas too far. |
| Duke | (-) A ten-point win over Coppin State is not very significant, and I'll keep Duke in the same spot as before. |
| West Virginia | (+2) West Virginia beat three traditionally solid mid-majors, including Western Kentucky, who has looked particularly good so far. |
| Richmond | (+9) Richmond had the experience difference, and managed to beat Kentucky solidly. This team is good, and better than the previous #24 rank. |
| Kentucky | (-6) Kentucky just looked sloppy in the loss to Richmond. I won't drop them far, and this team will get better, but that was ugly. |
| Rutgers | (+1) Not much to say, as Rutgers took care of business against three low-majors. |
| St. Louis | (NR) It is clear St. Louis should have been ranked in my preseason poll. They look good, and are setting up an exciting A10 title race. |
| Arizona State | (-4) Arizona State got killed on the boards in their loss to 'Nova, an unfortunate loss, but they beat a solid URI. |
| Florida State | (-) Florida State didn't play any games, so no need for movement. |
| Oregon | (-) Oregon didn't play any either, and they won't be moving either. |
| North Carolina | (+2) A win is nice, and they move up two to compensate for drops. |
| Texas | (+2) Same deal as UNC. Wins are nice and they move up due to other teams dropping. |
| Virginia Tech | (NR) A 3-0 team with a top ten win. Why not rank Virginia Tech right now? |
| Texas Tech | (-11) TTU got completely outplayed and blown out by Houston. I won't drop them, yet, but it's close. [DROPPED: 17. UCLA, 23, Michigan] |
