Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Gonzaga | Still some preseason rankings factoring in my top 25 for teams like FSU, Tennessee, Iowa. Otherwise it's mostly based on actual resumes now. |
| Baylor | Gonzaga and Baylor are clearly 1 and 2 for me. Baylor's defense is incredible but their offense has arguably been better. Flagler is solid. |
| Houston | A strange choice for #3? Maybe, but I respect their effort vs SC without their two best players, head coach and another assisstant coach. |
| Villanova | The VT loss is the only thing holding them back from #3 as of now. Huge road win against an elite defensive Longhorns squad. |
| Michigan State | The Spartans have an underrated frontcourt; Hauser, Henry, Hall, Bingham, Marble, they're all able go off. The guard spot remains a question |
| Texas | A veteran laden team with tons of talent. Shaka hasn't held them back yet so I'm starting to believe they could be B12 title contenders. |
| West Virginia | No shame in losing to Gonzaga, especially since they easily could've won if they avoided foul trouble. McBride has impressed me so far. |
| Illinois | They hung tough with Baylor, but they need others to step up when Ayo is struggling, like he was against the stingy Baylor defense. |
| North Carolina | UNC's frontcourt has lived up to expectations so far, but the backcourt, and Caleb Love in particular, needs to be more consistent. |
| Creighton | This ranking is mostly based on preseason, but also based on them boat racing some mid-majors. |
| Iowa | Luka Garza. Excited to see him (and the rest of the team) go up against the UNC frontcourt. |
| Wisconsin | Controversial call aside, Wisconsin should've beaten Marquette purely on talent, however the senior-laden squad failed to close the deal. |
| Kansas | I just haven't been impressed so far. Their best game was the opener vs Gonzaga and they've arguably gotten worse ever since. |
| Missouri | From preseason 10th in the SEC to top 15 in the NCAA. Very curious to see how they stack up vs Illinois next weekend. (COVID pls let it be) |
| St. Louis | Time to put some respect on the A10's name. Javonte Perkins and Jordan Goodwin are two super seniors but this squad is all-around loaded. |
| Virginia Tech | A rough follow-up to their upset win over Villanova. VMI almost had them on a night where no Hokie shooters could get hot. |
| Richmond | So that Kentucky win... Richmond is still solid, there's no doubt about that, but their resume took a hit with the Wildcats' struggles. |
| Xavier | 6-0, with a win over their crosstown rival. The Musketeers have a deep roster led by Paul Scruggs and Zach Freemantle. |
| Texas Tech | So uh, this defense is pretty good, huh? The 2nd half against Houston was great, and they've held their other opponents to 49 PPG. |
| Florida State | I still feel this is a top 10 team, they just haven't had the chance to prove that, yet. This week they get some tests: Indiana and Florida. |
| Duke | Well I was predicting a big sophomore season from Wendell Moore, and then he goes 1/16 this week. Matthew Hurt's been good at least. |
| Tennessee | Just patiently waiting to watch this team, I was pretty high on them in the preseason and expect them to jump back into the top 10 soon. |
| Indiana | So that Texas game was rough, but otherwise they've been a top 10 team. TJD needs to be more consistent if they're to reach that ceiling. |
| Florida | They took 1 half to get warm, but damn they were insane in those other 5 halves. Keyontae Johnson has 1st team all-SEC upside at the least. |
| Clemson | That Purdue win is underrated. Next 10: Ohio State, Louisville, SDSU, Rutgers, Colorado, SMU, Arizona State, Oklahoma, Virginia, Arkansas |
