Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Gonzaga | (0) No new data for the Zags this week with their games being canceled, but we don't need new data to know they're the best team in CBB. |
| Baylor | (0) Ditto for Baylor, but we got new data anyway with an 83-52 win over SFA. Butler, Teague, Flagler, Mitchell: Best backcourt in the land. |
| Iowa | (0) Luka Garza is averaging 29.2 points per game and 9 rebounds per game while shooting .693 from two and .684 from three. Mother of god. |
| West Virginia | (0) WVU is a Final Four-good team. Dominated a good Richmond team for 40 minutes. Culver is averaging double figures in points and rebounds. |
| Houston | (+1) Like Gonzaga, it's been an extended break for the Cougars, and they won't play until Saturday. Should be a good one against Alabama. |
| Texas | (+3) Texas looks as good as advertised. It's a shame that Sunday's game against Baylor was canceled due to COVID, would have been a dandy. |
| Kansas | (+5) Great win over Creighton then Omaha. Kansas is back to being good, and they did it without Garrett playing his best basketball. |
| Villanova | (-1) Trailing by 18 to Georgetown is reason for concern, but the fact that Villanova came back and won by 13 says a lot about this team. |
| Creighton | (-1) Can't punish Creighton too much for losing a close game to an excellent Kansas team, especially after a big rebound win over Nebraska. |
| Michigan State | (-5) Three straight concerning performances off the Duke win drops MSU a few spots. Need to shake it off before Big Ten play begins Sunday. |
| Wisconsin | (-1) Solid win over Rhode Island. Hurts that the game against Louisville was canceled, though. Would have been better for the résumé. |
| St. Louis | (+1) Another week, another 20-point win. With Richmond starting to fade, Saint Louis appears to be the team to beat in the Atlantic 10. |
| Clemson | (+10) Can we talk about how good Clemson has been!? Five games, five excellent performances, five wins. No. 2 defense according to KenPom. |
| San Diego State | (+3) Doesn't seem like Flynn going pro has hurt SDSU much at all. They tallied a 12-point win on the road against ranked Arizona State. |
| Florida State | (+4) Fantastic start for Florida State with wins over Indiana and Florida, who should both be tournament teams. Building that résumé early. |
| Illinois | (-5) When Cockburn is in foul trouble, who's Dosunmu's No. 2? One-man show in the Missouri loss. At least they have the Duke win to fall on. |
| Louisville | (-2) No games this week, so they stay about the same while explosive performances from Clemson, SDSU and FSU allow them to move past. |
| Rutgers | (0) Nice win over Syracuse to go undefeated in non-con play. Now the Big Ten grind begins with Maryland, Illinois and Ohio State up first. |
| Texas Tech | (+3) Outside of the Houston loss, Texas Tech has been playing exemplary basketball. Best defense in college hoops according to KenPom. |
| Tennessee | (NEW) Hey, Tennessee played a game! And they did so winning vs. solid Colorado and Cincinnati teams. They finally get back into the poll. |
| Missouri | (NEW) One of the early season's most pleasant surprises. Picked 10th in the SEC preseason poll, now has wins over Illinois and Oregon. |
| Xavier | (+3) Now 7-0 with an truly impressive win under their belt, that being a 22-point victory over tournament contender Oklahoma last Wednesday. |
| Arkansas | (NEW) Arkansas is another team flying under the radar. They're 6-0 with their worst performance (according to T-Rank) being a 25-point win. |
| Richmond | (-12) Not as high on Richmond as I once was. Ugly loss to (albeit excellent) West Virginia, underwhelming performance against Wofford. |
| Michigan | (NEW) After that scare vs. Oakland, Michigan has been playing fine basketball. Now 6-0. Next 5: UCLA, Virginia, Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon |
