Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Gonzaga | What is there to say? There's a reason everyone has them at 1. |
| Kansas | I am high on this Kansas team. Excited to watch them this year. |
| Michigan | Michigan has great returning talent and excellent new talent. They are, if only by a slim margin, my pick in the B1G this year. |
| Villanova | I like this Nova team. Tons of experience, and of course a coach who has shown he can win championships. |
| UCLA | I've been talking about how I'm not as much a fan of UCLA as most, but looking more at this team, I think their experience will be huge. |
| Baylor | Yes, Baylor loses some good players, but they also return a lot and have an incredible coach in Drew. |
| Purdue | This team has a ton of talent. They will be fun to watch. |
| Illinois | Losing Ayo is a bigger deal than many Illini fans will admit but I think this team will be right up there competing for a B1G title. |
| Texas | I'm lower than most on Texas; Beard is a great coach and they have a ton of talent but I need to see Texas basketball be successful first. |
| Duke | Fuck Duke |
| Alabama | Alabama is a consistently underrated team. I like their chances to win an SEC which is up compared to the past few years. |
| Ohio State | Although they're a bit below the next B1G team, that's a matter of teams bunched together lower down; tOSU will compete for the B1G title. |
| Florida State | Hamilton is an underrated coach and has only gotten better in recent years. FSU will compete with the best in the ACC. |
| Kentucky | Kentucky will likely end up higher but I'm hesitant to rank them there yet after last season. They have talent but a lot to put together. |
| Memphis | This team has a lot of talent; whether Penny can actually successfully lead a team for a full season is yet to be seen. |
| Houston | Houston and Memphis will be very close in the race for the AAC title. Their defense will win them some games this year. |
| St. Bonaventure | This is a team with an absurd amount of experience which will hopefully help with a talent gap which unfortunately gives them a ceiling. |
| BYU | The WCC is very solid this year, and I think USF and SMC have shots at second, but BYU definitely is the favorite for that position. |
| UConn | This team returns a lot from a team that was starting to figure things out at the end of the regular season. |
| Oregon | UCLA is easily the favorite but I wouldn't count Oregon out of the Pac-12 race. |
| USC | This team returns a lot from a good regular season team last year which had a great E8 run. Like UO, they will be by the top of the Pac-12. |
| Tennessee | Tennnessee needs to convince me but they have a respectable ceiling and a high floor due to their excellent defense. |
| Arkansas | This will be a very solid SEC squad, and Musselman is an underrated coach leading it. |
| Loyola Chicago | 2 MVC teams ranked? Yep, this is the hot take section. LUC and Drake are two super experienced teams, and the MVC race will be fantastic. |
| Drake | Next 10: North Carolina, Texas Tech, Maryland, Auburn, Michigan State, Arizona, SDSU, Indiana, Xavier, Colorado |
