Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Michigan State | This was a hard decision to make. Overall I think UK will be the better team, but based on how each team has played, MSU deserves the 1 spot |
| Kentucky | The Ulis injury seems minor, and even without them, they finished the game strong against USF |
| Villanova | The guard play for the wildcats is what sets them apart from other top teams. |
| Kansas | The Jayhawks looked great while winning the Maui Invitational, and should be even better now that Diallo has been cleared. |
| Iowa State | The Cyclones are loaded with experienced talent, and that might prove to be key in a few big games, especially down the stretch. |
| Oklahoma | Wisconsin is not great this year, but they've been Oklahoma's best opponent yet and OU put on their best performance. |
| Maryland | Maryland has Trimble and Sulaimon, but I'm holding out to see what they do against a really good team like UNC this week. |
| Duke | Brandon Ingram is playing better, Grayson Allen is back on track, and Kennard is showed he can be a valuable asset. |
| Purdue | Purdue has a handful of big wins, but most importantly, they handled a good Florida team and won by 15. |
| Cincinnati | The offense has settled down significantly, but the Bearcats have remained unbeaten behind their great defensive play. |
| Vanderbilt | Vandy eventually fell to Kansas in the Maui Invitational championship game, but they've played well after an OT scare against Stony Brook |
| North Carolina | Even without their best player, they've still knocked off 4 top 100 KenPom teams handily and their only loss is on the road to a good UNI |
| Virginia | I don't know what to do with a Virginia team that can score a lot of points. |
| Xavier | Trevon Bluiett is a dynamic player, and the Musketeers went on a tear through the Advocare Invitational. |
| Syracuse | Another team that proved they belong in the top 25 with a very impressive performance in the Bahamas, especially against UConn and Texas A&M |
| Texas A&M | Danuel House might be one of the top 3 overall players in the SEC and A&M has other weapons, both young and old, around him. |
| Gonzaga | If they can keep their talented front court out of foul trouble, the Zags will be hard to beat this year. |
| Miami (FL) | Miami has been dominant and looked like a top 10-15 team up until a buzzer beater loss to Northeastern. |
| Oregon | The Ducks have already beaten their two toughest non-conference opponents and could make it to Pac-12 play undefeated. |
| West Virginia | Press Virginia has really gotten going once again this year, and it really showed in a huge win over San Diego State. |
| UConn | They followed a good win over Michigan with two tough losses to Cuse and the Zags in the Bahamas. Wish Syracuse and UConn was still a thing. |
| Dayton | I'll chalk up the Xavier beatdown to being tired, but otherwise the Flyers have been mighty impressive so far this year. |
| Providence | Kris Dunn is the undeniable leader of this team, but as a whole, Providence has impressed so far with a win over Arizona and only an MSU L |
| South Carolina | South Carolina was a sleeper team in the SEC in my eyes, but early on, they have shown that they're actually a top team in the SEC & nation. |
| Arizona | An overtime win over Santa Clara and a loss to Providence had me questioning if Arizona still belonged in the top 25. They stay...for now. |
