Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Kentucky | Still the only logical #1 choice. Good win over Providence. |
| Duke | Looking great so far, setup for a large battle against Wisconsin. |
| Wisconsin | Solid wins over Oklahoma and Georgetown. Duke is a huge game. |
| Arizona | Close win over a quality San Diego St. Matchup with Gonzaga coming up. |
| Louisville | Only impressive win so far is a neutral site win over Minnesota. Ohio State on Tuesday should be the first good test. |
| Texas | Good win against Uconn even if it was close. |
| North Carolina | Loss to Butler was questionable, but turned it around against UCLA and Florida. |
| Wichita State | Nothing too impressive yet, 75 points on 58 possessions is very efficient. |
| Virginia | Defensively they look great (Rutgers held to 26!?), against lesser opponents. |
| Villanova | Looking good with wins over VCU and Michigan. |
| Kansas | Great win over Michigan State. |
| Gonzaga | No signature wins yet, but Arizona next week could change that. SMU no longer looks like a killer win. |
| San Diego State | Very respectable loss to Arizona, shouldn't have needed 2OT for BYU, but so far looks good. Benefits from other losses. |
| Ohio State | No good wins yet, but benefits from not losing yet. Let's see how they perform at Louisville. |
| Iowa State | Neutral loss to Maryland isn't awful, but it was one of their better chances to prove themselves early. |
| Michigan | Only decent win is Oregon and a close loss to Villanova. The Syracuse game will be very informative. |
| Miami (FL) | Win over Florida is great, has otherwise won as needed. |
| VCU | The loss to Villanova was acceptable. The loss to Old Dominion, less so. But it was a true road game. |
| UConn | Tough loss to Texas, plus the loss to West Virginia, needs some help to turn around their perception. |
| West Virginia | Win over UConn is looking better with their close loss to Texas. |
| Michigan State | No good wins so far, missed out on a chance against Kansas. |
| Nebraska | Still has the OT road loss at Rhode Island, who looks decent. This week will be the deciding factor on whether they should be ranked. |
| UCLA | Would have been nice to split against Oklahoma and North Carolina |
| Butler | Great wins over UCLA and Georgetown |
| Maryland | Good win over Iowa State, can they beat Virginia (or keep it close)? |
