Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Villanova | Xavier on the road will be their last real test of the regular season. If they can clinch that one, I think they lock down the overall #1. |
| Kansas | Took care of business with Oklahoma St., and good win at Kansas State. Probably going to win the Big 12 again, but it's not over yet.. |
| Oklahoma | Texas tech wasn't a bad loss, and the win at West Virginia almost erases it. |
| Virginia | Essentially a bye week, but the 2nd half of Monday's game against NC State was very dominating. 4 hard games remaining. |
| Michigan State | While I am a Virginia fan, I think I speak for everybody when I say that MSU tops my list of teams I don't want to face in the tourney. |
| Xavier | Hopefully gaining some consistency with two good wins this week. One last chance to dethrone the #1 coming up. |
| North Carolina | The Duke ending was simply bad coaching. But the Miami crucifixion I think makes up for it. Tar Heels can still be scary. |
| Iowa | Bad upset loss to Penn State. Basically just have to take care of business to secure the B1G though. |
| Arizona | All of a sudden, Arizona seems to be in a place to snatch the Pac12 from Oregon. A win at Utah would virtually seal it. |
| Louisville | Picked up a couple of solid home wins this week, but like the rest of the top of the ACC, they have some tough games left. |
| Iowa State | Baylor isn't a bad loss. Feel a little dirty moving them up this much, but they had a better week than teams right below them. |
| Maryland | Melo Trimble still not finding himself spells trouble. Lost in one of the season's bigger upsets, but it happens. 2 hard road games left. |
| Kentucky | Maybe they would have won without that technical, or maybe they still would have lost. Either way, it wasn't a bad game. |
| West Virginia | Unfortunately haven't been able to completely deliver in the biggest games this year. Will have to improve to make a good tourney run. |
| Miami (FL) | Miami was favored to lose to UNC. They weren't favored to be absolutely crucified. |
| Oregon | Maybe they've found their feet again. Still some time to recover before the rough LA finish to the season. |
| Duke | Even if winning @ UNC was mostly UNC's fault, it was still a very good win. Louisville loss is understandable. |
| Dayton | The road loss to St. Joe's was an understandable, quality loss. The home loss to St. Bonaventure? Not so much. |
| Baylor | I was ready to count them out, but then this week happened. Still have to play KU, Oklahoma, and WV again though, so we'll see. |
| Purdue | Managed to cut the IU deficit down significantly at the end, but couldn't seal it. They better find themselves soon. |
| Indiana | Almost blew the Purdue game at the end, but they were dominant for most of it. |
| SMU | UConn isn't a bad loss. SMU does seem to be riding their undefeated momentum still though. |
| Texas A&M | Maybe shouldn't have gotten the Kentucky win, but they seem to have at least stopped the bleeding. |
| UConn | Not many quality wins, but also not many bad losses. Who's ready for another UConn title run?? |
| California | Call me crazy, but for some reason I think Cal has turned a corner. Don't want to see them again in March. |
