Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Gonzaga | Had to lean on their point guard to beat BYU, but then beat a conference opponent by 35 in a game he sat out. Depth looking good. |
| Villanova | Still the toast of the Big East, and a clear favorite heading into March for both a conference championship and the Final Four |
| Louisville | They possess the nation's most efficient defense, and it's a lot easier to consistently defend than score. |
| Kansas | No longer the owners of the nation's longest home win streak, but still will probably win the Big XII. |
| Baylor | They still have 10 wins against the top 50 and no losses outside of it, despite losing twice this week |
| Florida State | Have a stacked resume that'll serve them well in March. Lord help the 1-seed in their bracket, unless that 1-seed is them. |
| North Carolina | I'm over kind of being so down on them since they lost to Georgia Tech, and instead I'm looking at their top 50 record. |
| Wisconsin | The Badgers apparently are the best team in college basketball, according to the latest ESPN poll. |
| West Virginia | Morgantown has proven to be a penetrable fortress. Their press will still cause problems for teams who expect to just play their game. |
| Virginia | Lost a game to an emotionally-charged opponent in their arena. Color me shocked. Tony Bennett will lead this team to good things. |
| Oregon | I have a ton of egg on my face thanks to this Oregon team. I had them #21 last week, and then they destroyed my #6. Sorry, Ducks. |
| Kentucky | Who would've thought they'd find themselves needing help to win the SEC? This team still feels like they can beat anyone, but will they? |
| UCLA | The Pac-12 is going to be very interesting down the stretch. Lonzo Ball faced off with Fultz and won the game, but is he winning the draft? |
| Cincinnati | Still tearing through the American. Good for them. |
| Arizona | Ouch. |
| Purdue | Looked good against Maryland this last week, but that game was on a wire the whole time. |
| Butler | Their bad wins might bite them in the tail on Selection Sunday. |
| Duke | Coach K is back! The most entertaining drama in this season is again in full swing, as people think they should've beat Pitt by more. |
| Creighton | They're making life work without Watson, but I doubt we'll see a significant tourney run, in both the Big East and the NCAAs |
| Florida | A win over Kentucky is their one top-25 win this year. Their resume needed a statement like that, but it's still not enough. |
| Oklahoma State | Shout out to me for ranking Oklahoma State in advance of their win in Morgantown. The Cowboys look to stick around a while. |
| South Carolina | The top of the SEC! It'd be amazing for this team to win the whole thing, but they still have to go through Florida. |
| Saint Mary's | 71-27 is a crazy scoreline in a D-1 game, regardless of who is playing. 27 points??? |
| Maryland | Losing to Purdue was a major setback in the "win the B1G while the computers hate you" agenda. |
| Notre Dame | No shame in losing to Duke and North Carolina, but still, you'd like to nab a win against at least one of the two |
