Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Arizona | Trier is definitely the early favorite for player of the year, and Arizona looks more composed than pretty much every other team in the NCAA |
| Duke | Grayson Allen is a good basketball player, unfortunately. |
| Villanova | There are two good Bridges in college basketball right now. |
| Michigan State | Also, why has nobody made any Miles Bridges jokes, like ever? That name is ripe for the picking |
| Kansas | Shot like crap against Kentucky and still won in a game that made me think less of both teams. |
| Wichita State | At one point, they were the top team on KenPom this week. Which doesn't mean much this early, but is still a fun fact. |
| North Carolina | The PK80 victory bracket will be interesting, since UNC has the "easier" of the two but I think will be less dominant than Duke will be. |
| Miami (FL) | Miami is going to be sneaky good. Yes, I'm stealing this thought from Mark Titus |
| Florida | I think they're a few clicks behind Duke at this point, so I expect a second-place finish next week. Should get to there pretty easily. |
| Purdue | Has anyone else noticed how Purdue is just running teams out of the gym right now? Their offense is exploding on a regular basis. |
| Cincinnati | Does anyone know who else is playing in the Cayman Islands Classic? If Cincinnati doesn't win how far do they fall? |
| Xavier | I feel like I'm supposed to be more impressed by the Wisconsin win than I actually am. Away wins are hard, but I expected a win here. |
| Kentucky | They look like an unorganized mess, but their athleticism is helping their defense look pretty good honestly. A bit of coaching will help. |
| USC | I don't trust this USC team yet, but a win at Vanderbilt went a long way towards helping me do so. |
| Minnesota | Another away win that's supposed to impress me, but again, top 15 teams win away games. Not saying they're overrated, they did their job. |
| Notre Dame | Man, Maui should be great. |
| Texas A&M | They followed up their beating of WVU with a decent showing. I'm moving them up 'cause I was a bit silly putting them below WVU last week. |
| West Virginia | I feel like the national scene is beating this team up too harshly for losing their first game in another country. |
| Louisville | I'd make a witty joke here but just saying "Rick Pitino" achieves the same effect |
| Gonzaga | Were having trouble with a MWC team at home for most of the first half, which doesn't inspire a whole lot of confidence |
| Texas Tech | Absolutely annihilated a Northwestern team that was viewed highly by people other than me. Those people are usually smarter than I am. |
| Seton Hall | I feel like I'm obligated to keep them here at this point but this is another team I don't entirely trust. |
| Saint Mary's | There's a tournament called the Wooden Legacy? Who's in it? ...oh |
| Baylor | Haven't screwed it up yet. |
| Creighton | A bit of a biased selection here, but I don't like UCLA anymore, Missouri is missing its best player, and they did beat Northwestern. |
