HickeysBay's Ballot for Week 6 of 2017-18| Rank | Team | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| 1 |
Villanova
|
Most complete team so far this season. They've got offense, defense, experience, athleticism. Post play is the only question mark. |
| 2 |
Michigan State
|
These guys are legit, I would have them ranked number 1, but there are times where they have looked a bit dysfunctional on both ends. |
| 3 |
Duke
|
BC shot the lights out, but don't know why Duke continued to use the zone and left shooters open. Perimeter D could use some work. |
| 4 |
Wichita State
|
They will grind you to death. Never make dumb mistakes. Just wonder if the talent level/athleticism is there for them to take it all the way |
| 5 |
Arizona State
|
They have yet to go cold shooting-wise. Great guard play, questionable frontcourt and defense. If they shoot well, they can beat anyone. |
| 6 |
Xavier
|
Their offense might be the best in the nation. Perimeter D is the only thing that could kill them. Don't call me homer, they are legit. |
| 7 |
Texas A&M
|
This team already has its identity early in the season. People know their role. I'd be surprised if they don't win the SEC. |
| 8 |
North Carolina
|
Luke Maye and UNC look elite when they play non-elite competition. Maybe the MSU game was abnormal. |
| 9 |
Miami (FL)
|
Not convinced on them yet, but they have earned this slot since they're undefeated with a nice win on the road against Minnesota. |
| 10 |
West Virginia
|
After watching them play A&M, I thought they were going to be terrible, but they've bounced back and look like a top 10 team. |
| 11 |
Gonzaga
|
Don't let the beatdown by Nova deter you. Tillie and Williams are fantastic post players. Have the tools to make the jump from good to elite |
| 12 |
Virginia
|
Defense is suffocating. Offense has questions. You could say this about UVA every year. But they are still undoubtedly a good team. |
| 13 |
Kansas
|
If Devonte is on, they play like the best team in the nation. If he's not, they play like garbage. He's usually on though. |
| 14 |
Seton Hall
|
Really solid on both ends, but not elite on either. Pretty complete team. Not much else to say. |
| 15 |
Tennessee
|
Physical team. Great wins vs. Purdue, NC State, and @GTech. Only loss was to Nova, and it was a close one. |
| 16 |
TCU
|
Finally have some good wins vs. SMU and Nevada. They'll compete in the BIG12. |
| 17 |
Purdue
|
They've recovered from B4A with decent wins over UofL, Maryland, NW, and Valpo. Plus, they have wins @Marquette and v. Zona. |
| 18 |
Kentucky
|
No good wins. Next 7 games will give us a better idea of how good they actually are (VT, UCLA, UL, UGA, Tennessee, and TAMU). |
| 19 |
Texas Tech
|
Physical and intense team that can get to the rim almost at will. Chris Beard is a terrific coach. Fun team to watch. |
| 20 |
Baylor
|
Only losses are to teams i have in my top 6. They've got experience and length. Defense is nice, but offense seems a bit stiff. |
| 21 |
Florida
|
Have looked pretty bad the past few games, but scraped by UC. Once Egbunu gets back they'll be a lot better. |
| 22 |
Notre Dame
|
One of those teams that can compete with elite teams, but lose to bums. Looked bad against MSU, Ball State, and Depaul, top notch otherwise. |
| 23 |
Arizona
|
They have too much talent to not be in the top 25. Good wins now vs A&M, Bama, and @UNLV. |
| 24 |
Oklahoma
|
Trae Young is legit, but the rest of this team doesn't get enough credit. Their defense is really good. |
| 25 |
Florida State
|
26. Cincinnati 27. Creighton 28. Virginia Tech 29. Northern Iowa 30. SMU 31. Georgia 32. Arkansas 33. Nevada 34. Butler 35. Nevada |
