Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Virginia | (LW: 1) As if their resume needed any boosting. Hard to bet against anyone else in the NCAA tournament. |
| Villanova | (LW: 4) Villanova just tends to turn it on in NYC, 3 Big East championships in the last 4 years, with a runner-up in 2016. |
| Xavier | (LW: 2) Does the Providence loss cost them a 1 seed? Probably not, but Xavier needs to avoid another let-down in the coming weeks. |
| Duke | (LW: 3) This team is still very scary. Even as a likely 2 seed, the combo of Bagley, Carter, and big booty Grayson Allen is terrifying. |
| Michigan State | (LW: 5) The Spartans are hoping that nearly 2 weeks off gives them the rest to make a deep run in the tournament. |
| Michigan | (LW: 6) The Wolverines are hoping that the time off doesn't cool them down from their red-hot performance in NYC last week. |
| Cincinnati | (LW: 7) A pressure-packed AAC championship game results in a title. This team's defence is legit and they should get a 2 seed. |
| Kansas | (LW: 8) No Doke, no problem. It's hard to imagine they can keep up the 3-point shooting in the tournament; if they do, they're a tough out. |
| North Carolina | (LW: 12) Very good week for the Tar Heels as they notched 3 wins and a close loss to #1 UVA. Will they be rewarded with a 1 seed? |
| Purdue | (LW: 9) Purdue may be one of the toughest teams to match up against when they shoot the 3 well, they could be hit or miss in March. |
| Tennessee | (LW: 11) A valiant performance in the SEC tournament final for Tennessee. Can Rick Barnes get over his disappointing tournament past? |
| Arizona | (LW: 15) Well Arizona is certainly firing on all cylinders. Ayton is a monster and playing angry at the moment. |
| West Virginia | (LW: 16) Hard to counter 46 3 pointers (it seemed like KU made that many, at least) but the Mountaineers still look good heading into March. |
| Texas Tech | (LW: 10) The close loss to WVU shouldn't hurt their seed line, but TTU needs to worry about beating a team like that in the round of 32. |
| Kentucky | (LW: 23) Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is insane right now. The Cats have won yet another SEC championship and will be a dangerous 4/5 seed. |
| Wichita State | (LW: 14) The Shockers were hoping to get another shot at Cincinnati, but the Cougars beat them to the punch. |
| Auburn | (LW: 13) Not a great look for the Tigers recently. Getting demolished by Collin Sexton (and others) is not helping that. |
| Houston | (LW: 20) The Cougars have proved that they can play with the big boys of the AAC. A good sign for their potential tournament run. |
| Gonzaga | (LW: 18) The Zags lost a chance at another Q1 win when St. Mary's lost in the semi-finals. A shame for GU, who otherwise could've been a 4. |
| Ohio State | (LW: 17) The Buckeyes are hoping that they can avoid the black hole that is the 5-12 game. |
| Clemson | (LW: 21) A very close loss to Virginia shows that this team is still a Sweet 16 threat even without Grantham. |
| Nevada | (LW: 19) Yikes, not the MWC tournament performance that Nevada was looking for. Could cost them a few spots on the seed line. |
| Arkansas | (LW: NR) The guard play for Arkansas is very impressive, but they did not fair well against the big, physical line-up of Tennessee. |
| Miami (FL) | (LW: 22) They didn't beat UNC in the quarterfinals but, inspite of their 3 seed, they weren't exactly favourites. |
| Virginia Tech | (LW: 25) The collapse against ND was not great, but getting that lead is impressive in itself. Next 5: SHU, URI, KSU, USC, Providence |
