SleveMcDichael4's Ballot for Week 2 of 2018-19| Rank | Team | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| 1 |
Duke
|
This is an overreaction week. We don't have many data points, but they still hold much more water than preseason hype, at least in my eyes. |
| 2 |
Kansas
|
Is Duke this ridiculous or is Kentucky just worse than we thought? Did they deserve to jump Kansas? Impossible to tell yet, but I think so. |
| 3 |
Gonzaga
|
The Zags beat two nobodies handily even though they are missing Tillie. I expected them to do this. |
| 4 |
Nevada
|
Nevada played a decent BYU team and pulled away from them late. They still look like an early Final Four candidate and are still super deep. |
| 5 |
Virginia
|
What Virginia does on the court is barely more exciting than tipping the ball out of a peach bucket with a broomstick, but hey. It works. |
| 6 |
North Carolina
|
UNC rises a bit by virtue of coming out on top in a testy road game. They lost the same game at home last year. |
| 7 |
Tennessee
|
That isn't to say anything bad about the Vols, who looked as sound as I expected them to, but ain't played nobody. |
| 8 |
Auburn
|
I'm going to immediately eat crow on my preseason Auburn hate. They seem to deserve all the hype they were getting and more. |
| 9 |
Michigan State
|
The Spartans eventually made it a close one against Kansas and looked mostly like a powerhouse against FGCU. |
| 10 |
Villanova
|
Quinerly isn't taking the reins quite as soon as I thought he would. Grad transfer Cremo is looking good so far. |
| 11 |
Kentucky
|
All I can gather from this team after one week is that they're likely below the legitimately great teams but probably still above the rest. |
| 12 |
Oregon
|
Bol is a monster, but Pritchard is still playing like the heart and soul of this team. |
| 13 |
Kansas State
|
I sincerely apologize to everyone who watched the entirety of Kennesaw State / Kansas State. |
| 14 |
Virginia Tech
|
Not a lot going on at the moment. |
| 15 |
Florida State
|
Without Cofer, got to play walk-ons against Florida, then Tulane played them way too tight. Lookin' like last year's Seminoles. |
| 16 |
LSU
|
UNC-Greensboro was a good test. They passed. Travis is slow to start, but Reid is picking up the slack. Yes, that's two different players. |
| 17 |
Syracuse
|
Looking forward to the UCONN matchup on Thursday night. |
| 18 |
Michigan
|
The Wolverines look as deep as I thought they might. Excited to see how they play against real teams. |
| 19 |
Indiana
|
Beat two awful teams by a billion. Effectively exhibition dress rehearsals for this week's actual games, but I like what I'm seeing so far. |
| 20 |
Mississippi State
|
thank u, next |
| 21 |
Buffalo
|
You have my attention. Have a night, Massinburg. |
| 22 |
West Virginia
|
I may have overhyped West Virginia as much as I underhyped Auburn. We'll see how they fare with more data points. |
| 23 |
Ohio State
|
Beating Cincinnati on the road isn't nothing, and a thorough thrashing of IPFW made them look pretty legit to me. |
| 24 |
UCLA
|
Should probably be better than this if only they weren't so injured. |
| 25 |
Nebraska
|
Fringe teams get more points with me for annihilating bad teams than they do for letting them hang. Seems reasonable enough, right Clemson? |
