Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Duke | A performance so good it not only vaunted them to #1 but it made everyone question if Kentucky is actually good which they are. |
| Kansas | Rare to beat a top 10 team on a neutral court and drop, but had to happen for now. KU will get their chance to reclaim ranking though. |
| Gonzaga | Maui final vs Duke might be top 5 regular season GOTY if it happens. |
| Virginia | Defense looks as good as last year. Playing with the 1-16 chip on their shoulder may be a blessing in disguise. |
| Auburn | Very impressive win over UW. Props for scheduling a tough matchup early. |
| Villanova | Paschall and Booth are a solid 1-2 punch but Gillespie's increased efficiency looks promising as well. |
| North Carolina | Played a pair of road games to start the season. No not exactly against elite opponents but still a good thing for the sport. |
| Kentucky | Won't drop them as far as others because I am in the "Duke is good" camp not the "Wow Kentucky must be bad" camps |
| Tennessee | ULL was a sneaky good midmajor last year so actually a pretty good win, but what was with that D2 matchup to start??? |
| Nevada | This many transfers will need time to gel but in the meantime the Martin brothers will hold the fort down. |
| Michigan State | Same as Kentucky, I think Kansas is really good, not too big a knock on MSU, plus Ward had a bounceback game vs FGCU. |
| Kansas State | Only one game of tape on KSU so far so not much to say other than really good defense, but seemingly spotty offense again. |
| Florida State | Solid road win vs Tulane. Not the best opponent but a good early road test only helps teams grow. |
| Syracuse | Team's biggest critic is Boeheim himself. Rivalry game vs UCONN looks way more competitive than in recent years. Orange should watch out. |
| Michigan | A bit of a scare vs Holy cross but still higher on them than most due to strong defense and returning offense that will improve. |
| Mississippi State | Short week coming up but after that a true test finally for the Clanga clangas with ASU and St. Mary's two sneaky good teams. |
| Oregon | Bol Bol is a monster that will feast on a weak Pac 12. But not much room for rankings improvement until then with a rather weak OOC. |
| Clemson | Not too wary of giving up 80 to the Citadel, they always have weird scorelines in their games. Game vs Nebraska soon is very interesting. |
| LSU | Good OOC coming up with Memphis, a Louisiana Tech team coming off an upset, and potential games against FSU and Villanova as well. |
| TCU | Looked really weak against CS Bakersfield, but only one game so can't judge them too harsh just yet. |
| Buffalo | The impressive win of Week 1 and an immediate jump into the top 25. This honestly may still be too low. Buffalo may be this year's Loyola. |
| UCLA | Promising start. People lower on this team than they should be because of the Alford Effect. Fort Wayne isn't a bad win, just ask Indiana. |
| Indiana | Romeo Langford as good as advertised. A prove it game right off the bat looms with Marquette though. |
| Marquette | Same as IU. SHiny new ranking but an immediate top 25 clash in the Gavitt Games to prove it. Need Howard to come through with a big game. |
| Purdue | Need to see more than just Carsen Edwards from this team. No one in either opening game scored more than 14 points other than him. |
