Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Duke | Nothing to see here. Just the best team in basketball doing what they do. Prepare yourselves for 24/7 ESPN coverage of Zion Williamson. |
| Kansas | The performances against Vermont and ULL weren't super convincing, but, hey, welcome to stardom, Lagerald Vick! Only took you 4 years. |
| Gonzaga | Zags stay put as the offense continues to roll. Norvell and Hachimura sure are fun to watch. Good thing there's plenty of basketball to go. |
| Virginia | Defense, defense, defense. I'm just waiting to see who's the first to put up 60 on UVA. If Maryland can't, maybe no team will until 2019. |
| Tennessee | Never really a doubt against GT, and it's nice to see the defense starting to live up to the hype. Big test on Wednesday against Louisville! |
| Nevada | Yep, they stay the same too. No surprise that Martin & Martin continue to roll, and no surprise that Caroline is right there with them. |
| North Carolina | Boring top 7, ain't it? But with everyone up here winning in week 2, there ain't no room for UNC to move up. Sorry, Heels! |
| Auburn | Finally, a change! Nothing special about Auburn taking care of business last Wednesday, but they move up by virtue of... well, you know. |
| Michigan | You had to know this was coming. Jump of 9 for UM after a 3-0 week featuring the domination of Nova, GW, and Providence. Hot, hot, hot! |
| Kansas State | Can I really put K-State in the top 10? Well, why not? They took care of business like they were supposed to. And I'm liking that defense. |
| Kentucky | Close to the top 10 once again. Can't quite put them there since they let VMI hang around, but they stay in the same place with a 2-0 week. |
| Michigan State | I don't care who you are or who you are playing. Winning by 68 points is always impressive. A solid win over ULM helps their cause too. |
| Virginia Tech | A ranked win against Purdue and a 3-0 week is good enough to move the Hokies up 3 spots. Let the gobbling in Blacksburg continue! |
| Florida State | Welp, the Noles stay in the same place by virtue of not playing a game during the week. That'll happen when other teams around you lose! |
| Mississippi State | Um, hello there. Jump of 5 after only a solid performance against Long Beach State? That'll happen when other teams around you lose! |
| UCLA | Like Mississippi State, UCLA moves up a few ranks with just a win over St. Francis in the past week. The key to moving up: don't lose! |
| Clemson | Same story here: Decent win and no losses. But Clemson's victory wasn't as impressive as UCLA's or Miss State's, so they'll stay behind. |
| Oregon | I guess I can't punish the Ducks too much after an L, especially when they followed it up with a solid ranked win over Cuse. |
| Nebraska | Did I make a mistake not ranking the Cornhuskers last week? I think I may have. They've outscored opponents 273-129, including Seton Hall. |
| LSU | I guess this is the last of those "moved up by not losing" teams, but they're a bit more precarious with scares from Memphis and LA Tech. |
| Indiana | HOW COULD YOU NOT TIP THAT IN?!?!? Ah, well. I can't drop the Hoosiers too much after a 1-point loss, especially with the Marquette victory. |
| Iowa | Well, well, well, what do we have here? Maybe the most exciting surprise of the early season, that's what. But can it continue? Let's see. |
| Buffalo | I lied, Buffalo is the last of those "moved up by not losing" teams. But I'm still quite excited to see where this team goes this season. |
| Texas Tech | You know I love a good defense. And that's exactly what Texas Tech has. Though Jarrett Culver is a one-man wrecking crew too. |
| Furman | Eh, what's the harm in putting Furman in here? They've just beaten two of last year's Final Four teams, after all. Let 'em have their fun! |
