Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Duke | (0) Number in parenthesis indicates movement from my last poll. This week, I decide what kind of bread I think each team is.... |
| Kansas | (0) Popeyes biscuit. They're the buttermilky feature aspect of their school's meal. The most reliable thing in the box no matter the combo. |
| Gonzaga | (0) Pita. The unsung hero. It's a wrap, a scoop, a pocket, it's even a crust if you're brave enough to get open-faced about it. |
| Tennessee | (0) English muffin. Basically toast's backup. You never eat one and marvel at how great it is, because it's all about what's around it. |
| Nevada | (0) Olive Garden breadsticks. They're endless, they ruin everyone's meal in the best way and they're coated for the perfect finish. |
| Auburn | (0) Texas Roadhouse rolls. Pretty great on their own. But then....bah gawd, it's the fucking CINNAMON BUTTER FROM THE TOP ROPE. |
| Michigan | (+10) Baguette. Stands the test of time. This one specifically was just dipped in the perfect mix of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. |
| North Carolina | (+2) Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits. Like the Popeyes biscuit above, except the cheese & herb combo puts it over the top. |
| Virginia | (-2) Wonder Bread. You know why. (To their credit though, they nearly dropped a hundo this week, which is like adding one slice of cheese.) |
| Michigan State | (+3) Ciabatta. The baguette spinoff with more gluten. Usually gets too soft at some point, though that's correctable. |
| Virginia Tech | (+4) Banana bread. So scrumptious when done right that it's practically a dessert. Got a sweet win this week too. |
| Florida State | (0) Everything bagel. They've got a lot going for them right now, despite the fact that they've been sitting on the shelf for a week. |
| Kansas State | (+1) Pretzel. Not the most convincing bread snack, but it's quality. This pretzel's first twist comes early (today, in the form of Mizzou). |
| Oregon | (-5) Cheesecake Factory Brown Bread. Admittedly an acquired taste, but a dynamite starter that can hang with the best at the end of the day. |
| Mississippi State | (+4) Brioche. A little extra butter gives it a rich boost, but it's early, so need to hope it isn't too flaky. |
| Kentucky | (0) Toast. Got taken out too early and isn't browned enough yet, but Cal's gonna get it to pop out again at juuuust the right time. |
| Iowa | (new) Cornbread. Duh. Damn did they look good this week. |
| LSU | (0) Focaccia. Great focaccia has tiny holes and complex flavors. This focaccia is just starting to get tasty. (Hole size pending conf. play) |
| Clemson | (+1) Shortbread. A product of low heat, though it becomes ready quick. Usually requires more than just its base. |
| UCLA | (+2) Croutons. The crunchy texture is for people that need to distract themselves from something....in this case, the head coach. |
| Ohio State | (+4) Rye. One of the stronger tastes for a bread, making its appeal narrower than usual, but it undoubtedly belongs. |
| Purdue | (new) Sesame bagel. It's on its way to everything bagel status, but ultimately it's more one-dimensional than you want to believe. |
| Buffalo | (0) Hawaiian Sweet Rolls. You want them at every meal in every fashion but you can't. Best enjoyed in small ripped bits until the last roll. |
| Wisconsin | (new) Cheddar beer bread. It's a lot of good things, and it's easy to put together. Some good crumble tests coming up next week. |
| Indiana | (-1) Sourdough. Got that special yeast to it. No, this isn't me calling IU fans sour after the loss. I legit think they belong here. |
