Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Gonzaga | Both Gonzaga and Kansas beat a top team last week. Both had a good comeback against a mid-tier team. Kansas has two marquee wins, but... |
| Kansas | ...it seems too often like they're not clicking, and relying on one player to carry them. Gonzaga is playing better, smoother basketball. |
| Virginia | Virginia basketball. A thing of beauty. Or something like that. |
| Duke | K's decision making suggests to me that he's still figuring out how to use this much talent correctly. Can't wait for ACC play adjustments. |
| Tennessee | I almost put these guys ahead of Duke. If Williams didn't foul out, they could have beat Kansas. He and Alexander especially impressed. |
| Michigan | This defense is phenomenal. If they can improve their shooting even a little bit, they're every bit as good as Virginia. |
| Nevada | Looked phenomenal against above average opponents. Here come the real tests. |
| Michigan State | They beat UCLA by 20 points and yet it wasn't as close as it looked. Winston and Ward are beasts. |
| Auburn | Harper and Brown are doing Harper and Brown things, and they almost beat Duke. Standing pat on my ballot seems right, all things considered. |
| North Carolina | Texas isn't a terrible loss and the talent is still definitely performing to expectation. Their freshmen are contributing big time. |
| Virginia Tech | The Hokies have yet to play anything less than an incredible game all year. |
| Purdue | I regret sleeping on Purdue's experienced talent just because they barely played last year (because, y'know, they had so many good players). |
| Texas | Roach is a certified bucket getter and Hayes is legit as a freshman. The UNC win was excellent and the Mich. St. loss cemented it as legit. |
| Wisconsin | Played a few very Wisconsin games in a row, then a very un-Wisconsin game against Virginia because Bennett teams'll do that to ya. |
| Texas Tech | Dough goes in, quality wins come out. You can't explain that. Culver and Moretti have made the sophomore leap. |
| Kansas State | Wade's doing what everyone thought he'd do. Two poor offensive showings to begin the year are getting farther and farther in the rear view. |
| Kentucky | Gonna keep falling until they look more convincing. As it currently stands, I think Tennessee would throttle them on their home court. |
| Iowa | Y'all, my birthday is on Tuesday. I would love nothing more than for Wisconsin (vs. NC State) and Iowa (vs. Pitt) both to lose horribly. |
| Oregon | Y'know, if you ignore the Iowa game (which you can't, but hear me out), the Ducks are still excellent on both sides of the ball. |
| Villanova | Canisius? Cool, I guess. Oklahoma State by 19? Maybe Wright's figuring it out after all. Florida State? Now they're back in business. |
| Iowa State | Tough loss to Arizona, yeah, but then they handled Illinois and beat the doors off San Diego State. Should improve even more when healthy. |
| Florida State | I'm still kinda high on them, but they probably should have lost to LSU, and how good is the Florida win anymore, really? I guess we'll see. |
| Ohio State | Mini-rant: calling a game "neutral site" if you're still playing in your home city is a joke. My Gophers are doing the same thing on Friday. |
| Arizona State | Mississippi State and Utah State are both great wins. Barely look like the same team that let CSU Fullerton take them to 2OT anymore. |
| Nebraska | Did you know the Huskers lead the nation with a 35.7 eFG% allowed? Even against the real teams they've played, it's been above average. |
