Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Kansas | (+0) They have the best resume/talent combination |
| Michigan | (+1) Maybe got lucky against Northwestern but still playing well with some of the best wins so far |
| Duke | (+0) Gonzaga loss makes them look not as solid but still very talented team that will be one of the favorites |
| Tennessee | (+1) Excellent win against the Zags, favorite to win the SEC especially with UK's loss |
| Virginia | (+1) Still playing very controlled Virginia basketball, VCU kept it close but the result wasn't in doubt |
| Gonzaga | (-4) Still very good and beat Duke, but had a very close game against Washington and a loss to a great Tennessee |
| Nevada | (+0) Close game against Grand Canyon but still taking care of business |
| Auburn | (+1) Second best team in SEC after UK's loss |
| Texas Tech | (+1) Still playing very good defense and haven't lost |
| Michigan State | (+1) Have performed well in many games against solid teams |
| Virginia Tech | (+1) Have recovered well from Penn St. loss |
| Florida State | (+1) Several solid wins so far will serve them well come March |
| North Carolina | (+1) This team had a couple early losses but look to be solidifying and finding their footing |
| Ohio State | (+1) Good wins and seem to be leading the middling mess of Big 10 teams behind Michigan and MSU |
| Buffalo | (+6) They have at least a chance to go undefeated, with a pretty soft schedule and some harder games behind them |
| Villanova | (+4) They're doing better after the early semi-collapse, Nova will surely be a very solid team come tournament time |
| Arizona State | (+6) Have only lost to Nevada, and that was a close game. The Sun Devils are playing well |
| Iowa | (NR) Good rivalry win, these Big Ten teams are hard to rank as they all beat each other |
| Cincinnati | (NR) Also had a good rivalry win, they've only lost to the Buckeyes |
| Kentucky | (-12) This team is talented and will be a threat come March, but right now they've lost to every good team they've seen |
| Furman | (NR) Villanova win looks better and better, despite some bad efficiency stats and performances I have to rank them |
| Houston | (+0) Anyone that is still undefeated this far into the season deserves to be ranked |
| Maryland | (-6) Losing to Purdue doesn't look that bad, and it was a close game |
| Wisconsin | (-8) Lost to Marquette but it was in OT and this team is still going to be good |
| St. John's | (+0) Next Five: Mississippi St, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Arizona, Florida |
