Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Kansas | Here the undefeated Jayhawks stay despite close brushes with Stanford and New Mexico State. It's like nobody wants to be #1 right now. |
| Duke | Duke continue to dominate with a 2-point loss to Gonzaga as the only blemish. Three consecutive 30-point wins ain't easy, ya know. |
| Michigan | Close calls seem to be a trend among these teams in the upper echelon. But, boy, is Jordan Poole looking really good right now. |
| Gonzaga | A two-spot drop seems fair, as the likes of Clarke and Hachimura continue to impress, but a loss to Tennessee and a close call vs. UW don't. |
| Tennessee | Tennessee jumps two spots after snagging their best win of the year in Phoenix vs. Gonzaga. Schofield has gotten better every single year. |
| Virginia | Cavs only drops by virtue of the Vols moving up. Nice to see the defense rolling, as only 4 of UVA's 9 opponents have scored 50 or more. |
| Nevada | Same story as UVA. The Wolf Pack did look vulnerable against ASU, but coming back from a 12-point halftime deficit to win deserves kudos. |
| Auburn | Auburn continues to roll with a 2-0 week. This offense is coming into its own, as Bryce Brown and Jared Harper caught fire against Dayton. |
| Texas Tech | Yep, Tech is #9. With WVU and K-State looking vulnerable early on, the Red Raiders seem to be Kansas's biggest competitor in the Big 12. |
| Michigan State | Big week for the Spartans. MSU proved it can handle top-tier Big Ten opponents by routing Iowa, then took care of business in Gainesville. |
| Buffalo | The Buffs are so close to cracking the top 10! Take care of business vs. SIU then knock off the Orange in Syracuse and they should be there. |
| Florida State | Very solid win vs. a much-improved UConn team this week. Terance Mann suddenly having a big night shows how deep this roster can go. |
| Virginia Tech | Just like the 'Noles, a 2-0 week, plus VT is still one of the teams to beat in the ACC. Good challenge with Washington next on the schedule. |
| Ohio State | Up goes OSU with an impressive rally to take down plucky Illinois. Buckeyes get their next taste of conference play in January vs. MSU. |
| North Carolina | All apologies to the Tar Heels, who I somehow forgot to include on last week's poll. Just keep winning and that shouldn't happen again! |
| Wisconsin | Not a great week for the Badgers with an OT loss at Marquette and a close call vs. Rutgers, but with everyone losing, Wisconsin stays put. |
| Kentucky | Down tumble the Wildcats eight spots with the loss to Seton Hall. This team hasn't been especially impressive, and it showed Saturday. |
| Arizona State | Yeah, they lost, but the Sun Devils really did put up a hell of a fight against Nevada in Los Angeles. They'll stay in the same spot for it. |
| Mississippi State | The Bulldogs impress again with a 2-0 week, including a neutral court victory over Clemson. Cincinnati won't be an easy test though. |
| Houston | Houston is still undefeated, and now they've added a power conference road win to their resume. Can they get another home win with LSU? |
| Oklahoma | Let's talk about the Sooners! Nice win over Notre Dame? Check. Utter domination of Wichita State? Check. Top 25 ranking? Check, indeed! |
| Iowa | Sure, they got manhandled by MSU, but a solid win over a solid ISU team was a nice rebound. They'll stay ranked in the top 25 because of it. |
| Cincinnati | Not many have noticed, but Cincinnati is good. They're 9-1 with the only loss to OSU, and Miss State a great chance for a marquee victory. |
| Furman | THE COWARDS HAVE RANKED FURMAN, AND I WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. BEST RECORD IN THE COUNTRY AT 10-0, BY THE WAY. |
| Villanova | The defending national champions stay ranked with a pair of wins. Next Five: Maryland, Nebraska, Kansas State, Indiana, St. John's. |
