Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Duke | Win vs. Texas Tech and Kansas losing should put Duke as a consensus #1 |
| Michigan | They've creamed UNC, Villanova, Purdue, Providence, and also beat Northwestern. How much more could you ask for? |
| Virginia | Remaining undefeated is enough to keep their spot at the 3. |
| Tennessee | That Gonzaga win continues to keep them in the top 5. |
| Nevada | An inactive week for Nevada, so I'm not gonna drop them |
| Kansas | That loss to Arizona State is a big oof, and since Vick is practically the only thing keeping them alive, they don't have much of a cushion |
| Michigan State | Their only "bad" loss so far is Louisville, I''m surprised they're not consistently ranked higher than 10 |
| Gonzaga | After their 2 game skid, they haven't done anything of significance. Their only decent game left is SF, so they shouldn't move much anymore |
| Florida State | Having an overall great season, but Villanova is killing their quality loss |
| Texas Tech | They had a pretty good game vs. Duke, so I'm not going to knock them too far down |
| Virginia Tech | VT has simply seemed like a solid team all year. Recovered nicely from the PSU loss |
| North Carolina | It seems like UNC only loses when they'd have a great chance to move up in the rankings |
| Marquette | Great win vs. Buffalo. Looks like the only great team in the Big East this year. |
| Kentucky | Amazing win vs. UNC shows that maybe UK isn't a TOTAL letdown |
| Arizona State | That win vs. Kansas would put them so much higher if they didn't lose to Vanderbilt. Still looking like the only good team in the PAC-12 |
| Mississippi State | They seem to finally be getting the quality wins they needed early in the year. |
| Wisconsin | All they did this week is stomp 2 bad teams. Nothing enough to warrant much movement. |
| Houston | As long as they keep winning, I'm not going to move them down. |
| Iowa | Didn't do much of note this week. They're going to have to do more than ride the wave from the 2K Classic to stay ranked. |
| Indiana | Strung together a few nice wins in early December, and that win against Marquette is looking better and better. |
| NC State | A nice win vs. Auburn and great coaching from notorious winner Kevin Keatts puts them in the Top 25 for the first time since 2013 |
| St. John's | Yeah their SOS is awful but going undefeated has to earn you some respect...right?? |
| Nebraska | I'm not sure whether to put this team at #15 on account of their high KenPom or not rank them because of their resume, so I put them here |
| Oklahoma | Just capped off a win streak vs. a bunch of teams where it isn't impressive to beat them, but beating them all is. |
| Buffalo | That loss to Marquette hurts when you're coasting on an undefeated record. Still better than Furman and others though |
