Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Duke | 0 Cam Reddish steps up and downs Florida St. on the road. Now they face another tough defense: Virginia. |
| Michigan | 0 The unstoppable machine rolls on. Maybe Happ and Co. can defeat this other undefeated team? |
| Virginia | 0 Incredibly impressive win against Clemson. Held the Tigers to fewer points than Alabama did – in football. |
| Tennessee | 0 Surged ahead of Florida in the end. And, of course, a big 3 from the Admiral sealed the victory. |
| Gonzaga | 0 San Francisco is legit. Gonzaga played well and it was worth staying up late to watch my yearly West Coast game. |
| Michigan State | 0 Solid wins over Purdue and Penn St. shows that there’s no stopping the Spartans in the Big Ten. |
| Texas Tech | 0 |
| Kansas | 0 |
| Virginia Tech | +1 |
| Auburn | -1 After the top 9, which are pretty solid, this next group is really struggling. |
| Florida State | +2 They played Duke really tough and end up moving up after a loss due to the struggles of others. |
| North Carolina | 0 The inconsistency is so real with this team. They have time to right the ship before Jan. 21 and Virginia Tech. |
| Nevada | -2 They were pretty underwhelming against Fresno St., and I just see them continuing to slide in my poll. |
| Kentucky | +1 Perhaps it’s by default, but I think they move ahead of NC St. I think they’re bringing more to the table. |
| NC State | -1 Would’ve liked to have seen a better performance against Pitt. But they had a great comeback to nab the W. |
| Buffalo | +3 They came up big against Toledo. 110 points! |
| Marquette | +1 They bounced back nicely against Creighton and Seton Hall, making their way through tough conference games. |
| Ole Miss | NR What a week for Kermit Davis and Ole Miss. Two great wins against Auburn and Mississippi St! |
| Maryland | NR Quietly put together a nice run to start conference play with wins over Nebraska, Minnesota and Indiana. |
| Iowa | NR Again, another team starting conference play off on the right foot: Wins over Nebraska and Ohio St. at home. |
| Oklahoma | +4 It’s not so much what Oklahoma did, but everyone at the bottom of the poll disintegrated. Not a bad resume, but need a signature W. |
| Mississippi State | -5 I’d rather still have three-loss Mississippi St. in the top 25 than some of the other teams I dropped out. |
| Louisville | NR Who knows what this team is capable of. They have great wins and some bad losses. |
| Houston | -3 Was going to drop them out after loss to Temple. There may be more bumps ahead, but a major conference team will have to take their spot. |
| St. John's | -5 Another week and another set of excuses on behalf of St. John’s. No Ponds in loss to DePaul. |
