Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Tennessee | (+3) The clash of titans at the top this week means Tennessee, with their 2-0 week, is number 1. Bama game was close, but results matter. |
| Virginia | (+1) Despite the quality loss to Duke, they also beat a top ten ranked VT team, and they are playing some sound basketball. Great team. |
| Duke | (-2) They would be lower after the 'Cuse loss, but a very quality win against UVA saves them. How far can Zion and RJ take the Blue Devils? |
| Michigan State | (+1) I like MSU's recent and upcoming schedule more than Zaga's so they're above them again. They should grab a few more ranked wins soon. |
| Gonzaga | (+1) Top 6 team last week and won their games, so they move up. I hate how easy their schedule is, but they're winning while others lose. |
| Michigan | (-4) Double digit loss to unranked Wisconsin drops them a few spots. Brazdeikis was cold and Happ was hot, but they're still a strong team. |
| Kentucky | (+4) Calipari has the team back on track, and a nice ranked win against Auburn gets them a top spot. Can they beat a reeling Kansas? |
| Buffalo | (+2) Buffalo keeps churning out the wins, and due to other teams losing, are here. They're a bit high, but I like them a lot. |
| Marquette | (+4) The Golden Eagles racked up some decent wins this last week, and they have some strong scorers. Keep an eye on Markus Howard. |
| Nevada | (+2) They didn't have amazingly tough competition this last week, and even had a one point nail biter, but they got the job done for now. |
| Maryland | (+6) That Wisconsin win sure looks pretty good this week. I think they'll lose against MSU, but they've earned their spot with all the W's. |
| North Carolina | (+7) With other teams losing, their jump is a big one this week, but they will face a decent test against VT to really see where they stand. |
| Virginia Tech | (-5) The UVA loss was a blowout, but they've looked decent in their other games. Hard to judge where this team is at the moment. |
| Auburn | (+2) Auburn had a 19 point win and then a quality loss against a higher ranked Kentucky squad, so they'll move up this week. Dark horse team |
| Kansas | (-6) Their last two games (Tex and WV) have been decided by a total of 3 points, and they are struggling with the loss of their big man. |
| Houston | (+2) They won their last 2 games and move up. I think Houston is firmly in the 2nd/3rd tier of teams, so low teens is probably their ceiling |
| Louisville | (New) What a string of wins for Louisville, who have looked great against their ACC opponents so far. The NC State game should be a fun one. |
| Iowa | (+5) Iowa extended their winning streak to 5, and have looked impressive with their scoring. Tough few games ahead for the Hawkeyes though. |
| Texas Tech | (-12) Tech's back to back bad losses cause them to fall all the way to 19 this week. They looked woefully unimpressive and lifeless. |
| Villanova | (+2) Villanova only played one game this week, but they won it, and stick around here in the rankings. I think Nova will continue to rise. |
| Mississippi State | (-) The Bulldogs got back in the W column this week so no change for them after their drop last week, but their next 4 games are a gauntlet. |
| Ole Miss | (-8) They go 1-1 on the week, with blowouts in both games. They drop as a result, but I still think they're a hot team who can beat anybody. |
| LSU | (New) 7 game winning streak, including a nice ranked win against Ole Miss. |
| Iowa State | (New) Great Tex Tech win and their KU win on the 5th looks pretty good. Hard next two games, but they have hung in there with the big dogs. |
| Purdue | (New) Recent wins against Wisconsin and Indiana earns Purdue the 25th spot this week, although I expect them to fall out pretty soon. |
