MrAtlantic's Ballot for Week 2 of 2019-20| Rank | Team | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| 1 |
Kentucky
|
Strong statement win against MSU gets the wildcats the top spot this week. Already 2-0 with a bunch of easy games upcoming, they're rolling. |
| 2 |
Duke
|
No Zion? No problem for Duke, as they narrowly beat top 3 ranked Kansas to open the season. Much like UK they'll probably be up here a while |
| 3 |
Louisville
|
Entering the season as a top ranked team, they're also 2-0, and Nwora looks good for them. I think they will drop a game or two soon however |
| 4 |
Michigan State
|
Coming in as the number 1 ranked team, they open it with a loss to Kentucky off the bat. Can they right the ship against Seton Hall? |
| 5 |
Virginia
|
You might fall asleep watching their low scoring games, but the defending champs get the job done, and should keep on rolling with W's. |
| 6 |
Kansas
|
You could make the case for them being lower, but the Duke loss was close, and their incredible amount of turnovers were an outlier imo. |
| 7 |
North Carolina
|
I love ACC basketball, and UNC is routinely the top class program in that conference. 2-0 start and some interesting matchups for them soon. |
| 8 |
Oregon
|
Oregon is building something notable again, and they've got a couple ranked games upcoming that could propel them higher up. Fun team. |
| 9 |
Gonzaga
|
Really dislike Zaga's weak conference - their wins are just unimpressive. I want to see them challenged, until then they'll sleepwalk to W's |
| 10 |
Seton Hall
|
2-0 while entering the season highly ranked, no real reason to move them much yet. Losing Powell should hurt them going forward though. |
| 11 |
Ohio State
|
I am always high on ohio state basketball, and with a 2-0 record and a cute win against Cincinnati, their game against nova should be fun |
| 12 |
Maryland
|
Others might have them higher but I still want to see more from this team. Seeing their transition to a zone D should tell us more soon. |
| 13 |
Memphis
|
With the Wiseman news, Memphis is a complete question mark at the moment. Lots to watch here, on and off the court. |
| 14 |
Villanova
|
Ranked game against Ohio State should move them further up or down, but for now they're here after only having a game against Army. |
| 15 |
Texas Tech
|
Fun team and program, they will probably be moving up as the weeks progress. Two wins but no real competition yet. |
| 16 |
Xavier
|
Similar to Texas Tech, they're sitting at 2-0 but have not really played anyone worthwhile yet. Just respecting preseason rankings here. |
| 17 |
Saint Mary's
|
Always a team flirting with rankings and cinderella runs, they're lone win against a Wisconsin program shows guts and makes them interesting |
| 18 |
Florida
|
Big drop for Florida compared to their ranking coming in, due to a big loss to unranked FSU. They'll bounce back, but def took a gut punch |
| 19 |
LSU
|
One game played and one W, but with a couple ranked games upcoming along with some other good teams. Props to LSU for some strong scheduling |
| 20 |
Auburn
|
2-0 and they'll likely keep the wins coming for now. Were a definite dark horse last year, can they find more of that magic? |
| 21 |
Baylor
|
Didn't really understand their hype coming in, and they lose by a bunch to Washington in their second game. Overrated or fluke game? |
| 22 |
Arizona
|
2-0 with multiple players that can take over the game. Nobody really threatening that they're playing against, but they look good enough. |
| 23 |
Texas
|
Their win over ranked Purdue gets them a nod this week, although I don't expect them to stick around for long. |
| 24 |
Utah State
|
Respecting the coach's poll with this one, and their first couple games have showed they can be a strong, stifling team. One to watch. |
| 25 |
VCU
|
Some family ties to VCU so I'll give them a ranking this week, 2-0 but just respecting the AP poll for the first week. Glad to see them win |
