MetaKoopa99's Ballot for Week 7 of 2020-21| Rank | Team | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| 1 |
Gonzaga
|
(0) Just when you think USF has exposed a sliver of weakness in Gonzaga... the Bulldogs go on a second-half run to win by 23. Good lord. |
| 2 |
Baylor
|
(0) Saturday's win at Iowa State was a little too close comfort, but the Bears got the job done to win by 11. Still a clear top 2 in CBB. |
| 3 |
Texas
|
(+4) Consider the world on notice. An 84-59 win in Lawrence ties the record the biggest road win ever in Allen Fieldhouse. Texas is scary. |
| 4 |
Villanova
|
(+1) A week off for Jay Wright's squad, which moves up a spot with Kansas and Houston taking losses. More tough Big East games on the way. |
| 5 |
Iowa
|
(+4) The top 10 was a whole mess of losses last week, so Iowa moves back into the top 5 with a good win over NW and a great win at Rutgers. |
| 6 |
Kansas
|
(-3) KU is still a top-10 team but... that Texas loss wasn't pretty. Probably would have fallen farther if not for other top teams losing. |
| 7 |
Creighton
|
(+3) Nice win at Providence to reach 8-2, 4-1 in Big East play. Losses from other top teams also help the Bluejays move up a couple spots. |
| 8 |
Wisconsin
|
(-2) A home loss to Maryland hurts, but Wisconsin was competitive all game, and they rebounded nicely with a 12-point win over Minnesota. |
| 9 |
Houston
|
(-5) Last week I said Houston was a dark-horse contender to finish undefeated in the AAC. Oops. At least they rebounded with a good SMU win. |
| 10 |
Michigan
|
(+5) I mean... A 9-0 team with wins over Penn State, Maryland and Northwestern (good not great teams) should be in the top 10, right? Maybe. |
| 11 |
Tennessee
|
(-3) Dominant performance at Missouri followed by a surprising home stinker vs. Alabama. Certainly hurts when you shoot 4-21 from deep. |
| 12 |
Clemson
|
(+7) I'm just sayin'... Clemson's playing excellent basketball and no one's paying attention... No one else will have them ranked this high. |
| 13 |
Oregon
|
(+3) The win streak is now at eight with good wins in there (Seton Hall, Stanford). The recent success gives them a little rankings push. |
| 14 |
Rutgers
|
(-1) 1-1 week with a good win over Purdue and a hard-to-penalize loss to Iowa. Ron Harper Jr. is playing like an All-American, by the way. |
| 15 |
Minnesota
|
(+5) So how about Minnesota? Wins over Iowa, Michigan State and Ohio State. Impressive. They did lose to Wisconsin too, so a moderate jump. |
| 16 |
Missouri
|
(-4) A 20-point loss to Tennessee puts a damper on Mizzou's season, but they're still 7-1 with wins over Oregon, Illinois and now Arkansas. |
| 17 |
Illinois
|
(+8) Bigger sample size helps Illinois, as their three losses don't matter as much as they did last week. Three straight B1G wins helps too. |
| 18 |
St. Louis
|
(-1) Dormant week for the Billikens. They stay about put. Only A-10 games remain. Saint Louis is the heavy favorite to finish at the top. |
| 19 |
Texas Tech
|
(-8) Harsh drop for an OT loss to OK State? Yes, but I'm splitting hairs in this 12-19 range. TTU gets the short end of the stick. Sorry. |
| 20 |
Virginia Tech
|
(NEW) Now ranking gets really tricky... We'll go with VT next. 7-1 with wins over Clemson and Nova, have looked good since the PSU loss. |
| 21 |
Louisville
|
(NEW) Louisville is essentially the same as VT. 7-1, one really bad loss (Wisconsin), some good wins (Seton Hall, WKU) to a lesser extent. |
| 22 |
Florida
|
(NEW) Florida is now 5-1 and 2-0 without Keyontae Johnson: a road SEC win and a very good home win over LSU. That deserves a spot, I think. |
| 23 |
West Virginia
|
(-9) What to do with WVU... They have great early performances (VCU, WKU) but looked bad three of the past four games... They just stay in. |
| 24 |
NC State
|
(NEW) I'm not positive NC State is a "top 25 team," but they did beat UNC, and their only loss is to another top-25 team (Saint Louis). |
| 25 |
Arizona
|
(NEW) Seems to odd to self-impose a postseason ban during a 9-1 start... Next 5: Xavier, Arkansas, Florida State, Virginia, Oklahoma State |
